OVERVIEW

The learning process at Sri Rafelsia is all about equipping your child with the necessary skills to facilitate the learning process.

Individual learning plans and various teaching styles are utilised in order to best match the individual child’s learning style, needs and pace. This will benefit your child by ensuring that all areas of child development are addressed be it the physical, intellectual, language, emotional or social skills. Programmes are multisensory in nature.

Here at Sri Rafelsia, we belief that learning is a natural process. Experience has shown us that when a child is kept interested and motivated, the measure of knowledge gained is significantly higher and more sustained.

To ensure that your child benefits fully from these sessions, classes are conducted either on an individual basis or in groups of not more than two or three children.

Appropriate complementary therapies are also recommended where necessary. Behaviour management workshops and other support services for parents are available upon request.

Parents are kept informed about their child’s progress through termly meetings.

The EIP at Sri Rafelsia is divided into two categories. Children with very mild difficulties are provided for through our group intervention programme at Tadika Rafelsia. A half-day provision, Tadika Rafelsia is the first of its kind private early intervention group programme, which is registered in Shah Alam. Intervention here is provided for children between the ages of two and eight years and the children will experience a school-like environment where each child will progress at their own rate and prepared to be mainstreamed.

All children will be assessed and Individual Educational Plans will be drawn up and followed in order to maximize learning outcomes. Structured and specific intervention procedures will be employed to ensure that all our students achieve their highest potentials.

Children enrolled at Tadika Rafelsia will have the opportunity to learn Bahasa Malaysia, English, basic number skills, art, music and appropriate social skills through our outdoor play programme.

» Sri Rafelsia

At Sri Rafelsia, older children who have been identified very late in childhood are dealt with on a 1-1 basis to maximize learning outcomes and to be mainstreamed soonest possible. These programmes are run for children aged 7 years and older in our Taman Tun provision. Each child will be assessed using a battery of diagnostic tools before a suitable programme is tailored and implemented over a twelve month period.

SPECIFIC LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
INTERVENTION PROGRAMME
(dyslexia, dysgraphia,dyscalculia and dyspraxia etc.)
  • Initial Screening & Diagnostic tests
  • Individual sessions only
  • Age range: 5 – 16 years

Intervention Method :

As there are many different facets to SpLD, at Sri Rafelsia a combination approach is used. These include diagnostic and prescriptive teaching procedures along side a combination of phonics and whole-word instruction. Phonological training is carried out in addition to visual training to facilitate structured, cumulative and sequential learning.

Explicit teaching is carried in the initial stages of intervention while a multisensory approach is employed through out the programme. All through our programme the focus is on independence in learning, as many children with SpLD tend to be highly dependant on others.

The first part of the training procedure is the administration of a range of assessments in order to obtain an objective means of measuring a student’s current abilities. This in turn will help us decide on the best way of helping your child. If we find it is not dyslexia, then we will tailor the programme to deal with only the problem areas and if necessary recommend other possible services, which will help your child. Within six weeks of the commencement of a programme, parents will be given a report based on our findings.

Younger children who have been identified before the age of 7 years will be enrolled at our half day provision, Tadika Rafelsia, in Shah Alam.
